Csound Console window

HI
I am trying to get started on csound and have spent all day trying to get it to install properly.
I am running windows vista and download the 5.10 version from Source forge and also the 2.5 version of python with the msi extension, as the dll doesn't seem to work.
Problem is that I can't open the csound console window, it flashes open for a second then disappears .
Does anyone have any ideas about what might be going wrong.

Thanks
Jo

re: Csound Console window

Well, it's a bummer you had to spend all this time installing Csound. 5.10 is a bit of a hassle on Windows. However, the Windows 5.11 installer is now officially up on SourceForge. It's a much simpler install, and it doesn't require Python (though, if you want to use Python, you'll need 2.6). You should download it; I guarantee you it won't take all day!

As for the console window problem, it sounds like you're double clicking on csound.exe, which, while normal for Windows apps, is not the way Csound does it. Csound's a little old school, so it should be run from the command line. However, you can use a graphical front-end like QuteCsound to avoid the command line. The new 5.11 installer comes with and installs QuteCsound, which is a great front-end, particularly for beginners. Again, you should download it!
