Dear all,
I Wouldlike to install Csound on my computer windows xp sp 3 but He need to install Python 2.5 , I 'm going here http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.5/ and see : python 2.5.4 replace python 2.5 , but a 3.1.1 version exist how is better actually ?
After I wouldlike to know what is a difference between Csound and SuperCollider
Thanks for your help

You'll probably have to use 2.5.4
Unless you actually need the Python opcodes, Csound doesn't actually have to have Python installed. Unfortunately (as I discovered last week when I had to install Csound on XP for a demo) the installed system raises an objection each time it starts if it can't find a Python it likes! You can just click "OK" on the alert that pops up, and Csound goes on to work without further complaint (unless you actually use a relevant opcode), but it would be a real nuisance over the long term.
Even more unfortunately, Csound seems very picky in looking for a friendly Python. This particular machine had Python 2.6 installed (presumably actually perfectly compatible) but Csound didn't see it!
So I suspect nothing but some 2.5 variant will work (and hopefully 2.5.4 is not too variant!).
re: python version
It does indeed need Python 2.5 -- I have it installed just to avoid the nags. Python 3 is incompatible. Michael Gogins, who makes the Windows installers, has a pre-release 5.11 version on his website that IIRC doesn't need Python. It's a doubles version only, but if you want to give it a go, you can download it here:
